Teachers of ICT need to become familiar with the term ‘Connectivism’ as this term is often used to describe trends in ICT teaching and learning (Siemens 2004 p, 1-2). Connectivism is concerned with ideas that suggest that knowledge and skills are ever changing and that new ideas and understandings are being discovered, created and practiced (Siemens 2004 p, 1-2). The way in which Connectivism is concerned with learning today is that of understanding that learners make links to other areas of learning and can connect the information to other experiences, decision making is a process of learning and that the desire to learn is a fundamental component of Connectivism (Siemens 2004 p, 1-2).

Therefore students are making sense of ever-changing information and knowledge and information. This is why technology is a great tool to use with students as it allows for information to collaboratively edited and changed with collaborative editing tools such as wiki pages. Students can create an access blog pages which allows them to share what they have learnt and provide opinions which are informed by research and justified with scholarly information. This new way of learning challenges old ideas of learning an allows students to receive a deeper understanding in big ideas and concepts.
